Biography

I was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and grew up as an only child. I have always been somewhat involved in music and audio from an early age. I started playing the drums when I was 12.

My interest grew through school as I played with a number of start-up bands. As I grew older, I recorded these bands in homemade studios. This is where I was introduced to different microphones, mixers, and other audio equipment. But when instruments were not around, I always wanted to entertain the people around me with different styles of music.

I moved from playing in bands and recording to being a so called “DJ”. DJ’ing for my family and friends with my own music convinced me this was something I truly loved.

I hopped on board with a mobile DJ and audio visual company. Since 2003 I have been DJ’ing weddings, schools, corporate events, and private parties. I’m knowledgeable about all genres of music, which allows me to entertain people of all ages and musical interests. I also have experience mixing live sound including Joel Plaskett.

After graduating from high school in 2000, I spent a number of years working in a call center. This convinced me I did not want to do this for the rest of my life. I decided to return to school to the Nova Scotia Community College to take the 2 year Radio and Television Arts Program. I fell in love with radio and within my first year of college, I became only the second first-year NSCC student to ever win a National Award from the Broadcast Educators Association of Canada for a 60 second commercial which I wrote, voiced and produced.

During my time at the college, I successfully completed work terms with a number of Nova Scotia radio stations, where I filled just about all the roles including, creative writing, promotions, productions, and on-air. My work terms consisted of AVR & Magic in the beautiful Annapolis Valley. I also spent some time at CKBW on the breathtaking South Shore of Nova Scotia and at the fast paced and highly rated CHUM radio stations in Halifax.

Even before I graduated, I landed a Part time job with CHUM Halifax at C100 and 101.3 The BOUNCE, working as a Remote Technician, Board Operator, and Production Assistant.

As I begin my radio career, I know I have a lot to offer and learn and I can`t wait to get started.

One Year Goal

I set my one year goal as a very simple one.  Basically in one year, I’d like to be financially stable and working full time in the Radio Industry.  I prefer either on-air or production, or both. I would also like to be set up with a home studio, and become a freelancer. Doing voice over’s, and production side projects.

Five year Goal

Within 5 years, I hope to still be working full time in radio; however I hope to be in the position as Music Director.  As Music Director, this will help lay the foundation for my future goals to one day become a Programming Director.  As for my freelancing side projects, my goal is not only to still have it going, but to have employees of my own.
